It is hard. Whether family or work, it is hard to approach difficult situations with gratitude. We know we should approach every situation with gratitude and curiosity, but emotions, preconceptions, and pride can get in the way. At LandWorx, we have been through a LOT of change over the last year. I would like to say that it was all handled with grace and class. I’d like to say that we have learned all of our lessons and are in the exact right place that we want to be. The truth, while not too far from those ideals, is that we still have learning and growing to do. That said, here are five things that I am VERY thankful for as we come down the home stretch of 2024!

1 – Co-workers. All of them.
Our average tenure is just over five years which, for a company that is only 9 years old, is very solid. We have an incredibly diligent and talented team. We have a pretty tight core and share a lot between one another. Even with those employees that have moved on I am thankful for not only what I learned, but also for the opportunity to be around them, to be a part of their journey, to know that their time with LandWorx was one of growth.

2 – Clients. All of them.
Much like with employees, every new client relationship is an opportunity to learn and grow. Some we have moved on from and some we will work with for the next twenty years. We are not afraid to have tough conversations and most of our clients are appreciative of that. We appreciate the openness and communication as a partner to help them achieve their goals and visions.

3 – The Process
LandWorx has been working to adopt a system of operations which both allows creativity and experimentation while also holding us accountable. It has been painful at times, but we now have processes in place and roles defined that are helping our people be successful in growth and opportunity. All while making our quality better as well.

4 – Communication
If there’s one thing I’ve learned after 25 years of doing this job, it’s that it is ALWAYS better to make the phone call, have the conversation, complete the action, etc. sooner rather than later. I am extremely grateful for employees, partners, clients, contractors and even municipalities who pick up the phone to find solutions. It makes SUCH a huge difference in relationships and timelines. We are all generally trying to get to the same place and the sooner there is understanding, the better for ALL!

5 – Family
Any business owner will tell you tales of the sacrifices that they have made and their families have made to build their business. I am lucky enough to have the support of my wonderful wife and kids – and the flexibility to be able to support them.
